Is chiropractic treatment covered by health insurance?

Yes, chiropractic treatment may be partially covered by many health insurance policies if you have a suitable supplementary health insurance policy.

The amount you are reimbursed depends on your health insurer and the supplementary cover you have chosen. For example, insurers may set a maximum amount per treatment, per day or per calendar year.

You should therefore always check the current policy terms and conditions of your own health insurance and our rates.

What is the reimbursement for chiropractic treatment under the basic health insurance scheme?

Chiropractic care is not usually covered by basic health insurance. Any reimbursement is usually provided under supplementary insurance.

This also means that you are not automatically entitled to reimbursement if you only have basic insurance.

Does the excess apply to chiropractic treatment?

Is your chiropractic treatment covered by your supplementary insurance? If so, this reimbursement is not normally subject to the compulsory excess under your basic insurance.

This means that you do not usually need to use up your excess first in order to claim reimbursement under your supplementary insurance.

How much will I be reimbursed for chiropractic treatment?

The exact level of cover varies depending on the health insurer and the policy. Check your insurance policy under ‘chiropractic’, ‘alternative therapies’ or ‘alternative care’.

  • the maximum amount per calendar year;

As health insurers may change their reimbursement rates and terms and conditions, we advise you to always check the current policy terms and conditions.
