Shot in the back: what to do and how chiropractic helps

You've probably heard the expression before - someone says it's "shot in the back" with them. But what does that actually mean? In this blog, we describe what people mean when they say it's "shot in the back", what you can do about it and how chiropractic care helps get rid of the pain.

Shot in the back: what does this mean?

'Shot in the back' is a common expression used to describe a sudden and intense pain in the back. This feeling can range from a sharp stab to a dull, nagging discomfort. Often, this feeling occurs suddenly after a wrong movement, such as lifting a heavy object, twisting the body, during sports or everyday activities. What actually happens is that the muscles and joints in the back contract, leading to pain and restriction of movement. But what are the causes of this condition, and how can chiropractic help?

Possible causes

Wrong move: One of the most common causes of feeling "shot in the back" is making a wrong movement. For example, it can occur when you lift something heavy without using proper technique, or when you turn your body very abruptly. These movements can lead to overuse of the back muscles, causing the muscles and joints to contract and you may experience a stabbing pain.

Muscle strain: The intense pain may also result from muscle strain. Excessive exertion or sudden movements can lead to stretching or tearing of muscle fibres in the back muscles. This can lead to pain and discomfort.

Joint blockages: problems in the spine can contribute to feeling "shot in the back". When the spine does not function optimally, it can lead to pain and limited mobility and flexibility.

Shot in the back: what to do?

Chiropractic offers an effective approach to treat and prevent the pain symptoms you experience when it is 'shot in the back'. Chiropractors understand the complex anatomy of the spine and the importance of a properly functioning nervous system. Chiropractic care can help in the following ways:

Chiropractic adjustments ('chiropractic adjustments'): chiropractors perform specific adjustments to balance the spine. This helps to restore mobility and reduce pain.

Muscle relaxation: Chiropractic care can help relax over-tightened back muscles. This promotes the recovery process and reduces pain symptoms.

Prevention: Chiropractors can advise on the right techniques for lifting and moving to prevent it from shooting you in the back again.

Natural painkiller-free approach: chiropractic care is medication-free and non-invasive, making it a safe and natural option.
